Professional tax in West Bengal

Professional tax is the small state tax your employer deducts from your gross salary every month. Here is exactly what West Bengal deducts at each salary level in FY 2026-27 — and what it does to your in-hand pay.

How the deduction works in West Bengal

West Bengal introduced new slabs from 1 October 2026 (Notification 1607-F.T.): nil up to ₹20,000/month gross; ₹100/month up to ₹30,000; ₹140 up to ₹50,000; ₹170 up to ₹1,00,000; and ₹208 above ₹1,00,000. The constitutional cap on professional tax is ₹2,500 per year. Schedules change through state notifications — if your payslip shows a different figure, your payslip is right for you.
